The one that comes (Otozureru Mono)

This installation work is a combination of sound, video, and lighting effects in an elementary school broadcast room and an audio-visual room.
In Okinawa, there is a “Marebito ( spiritual being ) belief,” and people believe that a god from “Nirai Kanai,” an other world beyond the sea, brings fertility and happiness. In Shioya Bay, where the former Shioya Elementary School is located, a folk festival called Ungami is held every year on the first boar day after Bon festival, to welcome the gods from Nirai Kanai and pray for a good harvest.
This work combines the sound of Parangku, a small drum used in the Ungami festival, images taken from the sky over the sea at Kaneku beach, one of the places where prayers are held, and sound recordings of the Ungami ritual “Goganbari” (a boat race held in Shioya Bay), with lighting effects to create a multi-layered viewing experience.
