Mazooka on Sunday
Sundays are quiet. The city is empty, few people are on the streets. Factories are shut down, no one works, schools are closed. There is no wind, and flags hang down on flagpoles. Quiet sounds come from the houses. A music is played here and there, the sound of plates clattering in the kitchen, and the sound of someone chopping onions. Somebody might be playing cards somewhere. Someone might be reading a book. Sometimes a car passes by, and a ship crosses the horizon.
The city is a mirror of society.
How do we create the space we need for our lives? How do we produce, eat, and sleep? How do we love, learn, work, and relax? Where and how do we meet others? Who decides what the city needs and where to build it? Do those with economic and political power decide? Are other people's voices heard and involved? What ideas and spirit are reflected in the city? The city is a sculpture we create every day, and it is constantly changing.
The installation work “Mazooka on Sunday” offers the experience of visiting a city that stays still for Sundays. This stillness enables the audience to quietly observe details that would otherwise be blurred by the busyness of everyday life.
