Basho Fabric Workshop
PROFILE
A "Bashofu" workshop weaving cloth from banana tree fibers. It’s a traditional Okinawan textile with a history of more than 400 years, which was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of the Country in 1974. Weaver, Toshiko Taira, a Living National Treasure, is still making Basho threads teaching the younger generations at the workshop in Kijoka, Oogimi Village.
