PROFILE

He was influenced by the avian-drawing artist Charles Tunnicliffe. After seeking how to express his works based on Japanese tradition, he decided to master ink wash painting, visiting around many places in Japan. Since 2006, he has been running his studio and presented the works library “Yambaru byoubu” (byoubu means Japanese paravent).

Yambarukuina (Okinawan rail) is the bird that you have almost no chance to see. Including Yambarukuina’s subtle daily expression such as nutating or picking foods and so on, Kikuta has drawn them with serenity in the natural environment of Yasuda. We want you to feel as if the natural monument in Yambaru were close to you.
